SSG Travis Mills

Travis Mills Foundation

Retired Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills was severely injured on April 10, 2012, during his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. Thanks to his amazing strength, courage, and incredible will to live, the heroic actions of the men in his unit, and the prayers of thousands, Travis has returned to the U.S. and was on the road to recovery.

The incident left him as one of only five quadruple amputees from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to survive their injuries.

After experiencing a grueling 19-month recovery process to acclimate himself to life as a quadriplegic, Mills has more than just endured, he’s excelled. He started the Travis Mills Foundation in 2013 to benefit wounded veterans; was the focus of the documentary Travis: A Soldier’s Story; and wrote a best-selling memoir, Tough as They Come.

He speaks across the country, motivating others to live by his motto “Never give up. Never quit.”

“I’m just a man with scars,” he says, “living life to the fullest and best I know how.”

September 2013, Travis and his wife Kelsey founded the Travis Mills Foundation. On February 27, 2015 Travis Mills Foundation purchased the former Elizabeth Arden Estate. After they purchased the home and then they were able to turn the estate into a fully accessible, free retreat for special-needs veterans and their families. The Travis Mills Foundation Veteran Family Retreat has served many veterans and their families.

“We understand what these families have been through,” says Mills, “These vets don’t have to live life on the sidelines and watch their families do things.”

Recently Travis partnered up with CBU Benefits.
